Relocating to Chintsa: Is it that easy!

Have you ever considered relocating to a small village in South Africa? Read the Hubbards experience of moving to Chintsa East below.

We moved to Chintsa East in March 2020 right before the pandemic. I have been coming to Chintsa since I was five years old for around three weeks a year and always wondered what it would be like to live in Chintsa.

We were lucky in the fact that we got to stay in my folks holiday house and slowly integrate ourselves into the slow life of Chintsa, especially as it was lock down at the time. What we realised rather pleasantly was that the community even though it was in the midst of a pandemic was still smiling and getting out when we could.

As the pandemic subsided we started to make real plans to live in Chintsa and looking for houses to rent or buy. Once we saw the house prices in relation to the rest of the country we knew we were on to something. We lucked into a old but perfect house for us, at a steal, called the Lucky Bean House, with a spectacular view over the lagoon and bird life all around us.

As we have made friends and got to know the community better…who does what and how to get the best internet speeds, something that can be tricky in the Cape Wild Coast, we have fallen in love with this part of South Africa.

We travel extensively for work but always feel a sense of relaxation when we drive back into Chintsa where we see cows trimming the lawns, neighbours chatting to each other in the street, kids riding bikes and people smiling back at you. We wouldn’t live anywhere else!
