Who is Chintsa Dogs? A story worth telling

Many of you may know that Buckaroo, founded by Marlene Neumann 8 years ago, made a huge impact on animal welfare in and around East London.

The Buckaroo team focussed on raising funds for sterilisation drives in informal settlements. The Buckaroo project has sterilised over 2000 dogs, with the main donor being the International Dog Trust in the UK, and with the help of the ELSPCA and local vets.

Sadly the funding has come to an end as the funder is withdrawing from Africa. In addition to this the East London SPCA has been forced to close its clinic due to lack of funding. As a result a group of us Chintsanites have decided to form Chintsa Animals In Need, as we believe that, together with the support of this amazing community, we can continue Buckaroo’s legacy by assisting dogs in Chintsa East, Chintsa West and Glen Eden. We are keeping our focus on the local community as we are a small group and we all have work and other commitments.

We are still in the process of setting up and getting to know the ropes but we will keep you informed of our progress. In the interim we would appreciate any assistance (now or in the future) in the form of liking and sharing our Facebook page, and donations (blankets, carpet offcuts, kennels, food, dip, tick and flea and deworming medication, and of course money).

Donations drop off point is 787 Fish Eagle Drive (during working hours Monday to Friday)

Our founder group consists of: Caren Dessington, Jana Hiles, Lyn Crawford, Pauline Lottering, Renee Fuchs-Matthiessen, Wencke Lasch and our volunteers are: Amira Quinlan, Brendan Collet, Christine Keyter, Cindy Esterhuizen, Dennis Taylor, Gillian Preston, Junior Mvikweni, Kim Houghton, Lily Cook, Manda Best, Nox (Khanya) Hemete, Pannie van Rheeder van Oudshoorn, Reece van Aardt, Retha Redman, Richard Moorhouse, Vivienne Harding, Zintle Mvikweni.
